Snoring Treatment Q&A

Why am I snoring so much?

Snoring occurs when the tissues in your throat relax during sleep. This narrows your airway, causing your body to work harder to move air in and out of your lungs. Those changes create vibration in your tissues, which makes the noises you (and your sleep partner) recognize as snoring.

Several other factors can contribute to snoring, including:

  • Anatomical abnormalities
  • Nasal congestion
  • Deviated septum
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Sleeping on your back
  • Sleep deprivation

In some cases, a person can snore without knowing it. Some of the signs you might be snoring at night include difficulty concentrating, daytime sleepiness, increased aggression, and being quick to anger or frustration.

What kinds of snore treatments are available?

Dental Aesthetics and Wellness Center takes pride in using the most advanced treatments available, including the Fotona LightWalker® laser system.

While snoring can certainly be inconvenient and disruptive, there are treatments that can help you get the rest you need to thrive. Dr. Soleimani offers an innovative treatment called NightLaseⓇ that works by altering the shape of your airways. This is also sometimes referred to as SnoreLase MD.

This solution requires no drug therapies and is non-invasive. There’s no need for anesthesia, and no recovery time after your treatments.

How does NightLase work?

NightLase uses laser technology to improve your nighttime breathing. Concentrated beams of light in dual wavelengths deliver “cold” ablation, meaning your tissues are altered without the heat associated with many types of laser therapy

Treatments work by strengthening your collagen in your soft palate. This lifts and tightens the area, creating more room for air to flow.

During your sessions, Dr. Soleimani uses a special handpiece to treat only the precise tissues needed to improve your airflow. Each session takes around 20 minutes to complete. There is no pain, and most people only experience a slight warming sensation during sessions.

Once your treatments are complete you can return to your normal daily routine. You might notice mild soreness in the throat for a day or two, but any discomfort can be resolved with over-the-counter pain medications.

How long will it take to see improvements in my snoring?

It usually takes several sessions of NightLase to achieve the full effects. That said, many people report improvements after their initial session.

Your treatments are spaced out over a six-week timeline. This allows your body to adjust to treatments. You can expect your results to last as long as a year, and if your snoring returns, you can come in for subsequent treatments as needed.

How does laser treatment help with sleep apnea and snoring?

Laser treatment for sleep apnea and snoring works by gently tightening the tissues in the throat and soft palate, which are often responsible for airway obstruction during sleep. This minimally invasive procedure uses focused laser energy to reduce the excess tissue that causes snoring and sleep apnea. The treatment is quick, typically completed in multiple short sessions, and requires no downtime, making it a convenient option for those seeking relief from disruptive snoring and sleep apnea. Most patients notice a significant improvement in their sleep quality and a reduction in snoring after completing the treatment.
